Heros End Cover Prep Sketch

This is a prep sketch for a cover I am doing for a friends project with a comic book club he set up within the Boys and Girls Club.
He is working with the kids to get them interested in art and drawing. As such he is working on a graphic novel with them. This particular chapter is a crossover story with the Hulk and Hellboy that revolves around an adventure in the Himalayas, The Abominable Snowman and aliens!
Sound fun?
You bet.

I do prep sketches like this a lot when I'm doing something formal - it allows me to work out the good ideas from the bad ones and when I do the full sized drawings I basically know exactly what I'm doing.

Click on the title of this post and it'll send ya on over to the blog-site that was set up for the comic book club this work is for.

Glandular Freak Show

Because these days comics are a showcase for them. That and like I said before, fat guys are fun to draw.

Crimson Kahzmatek (Monster Contest)

This was my entry into Deviant art member Inzekkts monster contest. The character is one of her original ideas and she asked a bunch of Deviant artists to participate in the little contest.
First prize is only a 1 year Deviant Art subscription but it is totally worth it.
It was a fun project to do to take my mind off other things.
Being that her character (called the Crimson Kahzmatek) is a raging alcoholic I felt it only fitting I have it drinking a blood martini.
If you click on the title of this post it should redirect you to Inzekkts journal describing the contest.
From pencils to inks to digital post work it took just under 6 hours in total to finish.

HellBoy Storyboard

These are pages 2-4 of a five page Hellboy storyboard I am working on for my comic book portfolio.
I've done a lot of work lately that I felt was pretty sub-standard but I am quite happy with the way this turned out for the most part.
Pages one and five will be coming soon to a computer screen near you.

More in the Series...

... Of hand drawn stains I am working with. Over all the work is for digital printmaking and on top of being studies in formalism they are a bit of a commentary on how the digital process is viewed by very traditional print makers.
These turned out much better then the previous attempts. These seem much more organic and real as the previous ones (which can be found HERE) had the look and feel of "comic bookie" style images. They are a little over the top in a sense while these have a more natural feel to them.

No Fear

Despite the claims of the girls shirt to the contrary, I do believe she and her youthful companion should probably be very afraid.
From pencils to inks this one took me about 4 to 4 and a half hours in total to reach this stage.

Ancient Egypt

I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to my fascination with ancient Egypt; all of the art and culture capture my imagination like no other.
This particular drawing is not based on any specific historical figure. Shes just a composite of several famous female Pharaohs in a totally fictitious way of course.
The half buried statue of the Pharaoh next to her is no one in particular, though I should mention I gave the statue my face.
This is another one that would really benefit from some bad-ass colors. I'm just not good enough in that area (because of my color blindness) to color this in the way I have it imagined in my head.
Drawn at about 14 x 17 from pencils to inks it took about 3 and a half to 4 hours to finish.
